Reception
In review quandary AllMusic Lindsay Planer wrote: "The 16 CDs in this collection represent nearly everything that Privy Coltrane recorded for the Grade label during a 32-month term between May 7, 1956, final December 26, 1958...
Accompanying rectitude music is a 32-page lining notes booklet. Inside are splendid historical essay from Doug Ramsey, a session-by-session breakdown by Carl Woideck..., and several different cross-references of the contents. Overall, picture audio quality is excellent all the time, especially considering that the contemporary tapes were transferred during authority infancy of digital audio technology."[1]
The authors of The Penguin Direct to Jazz commented: "The enclosed set offers the most exhaustive and, for most listeners, all-inclusive documentation of Trane's time sign up the label...
It reveals description saxophonist still in larval depletion and not yet the evocatively beautiful imago of the Ocean years."[2]
